In the National Science Foundation the department of Polar Programs and the department of Education and Human Resources have started a new initiative called Polar STEAM. Inside of this sub-department are two programs called the Antarctic Artists and Writers (AAW) program and the Polar Educator's program.

 

The Antarctic Artist and Writers supports writing and artistic projects specifically designed to increase the public’s understanding and appreciation of the Antarctic and the human endeavors on the southernmost continent.

 

The Polar Educators program supports formal and informal educators to travel to Antarctic and the Arctic to work collaboratively with researchers.

Both programs promote connections and innovative partnerships between their participants.

The Antarctic Artist and Writers and the Polar Educators program will now be combined into the Polar STEAM program.
